Freelance Book Production Editor

Duties and Responsibilities:

Global book production services company seeking experienced freelance book production editor. Would be responsible for overseeing all stages of production from raw manuscript to release of final files including:

" Coordinating with publisher and author on the needs of each project
" Evaluating manuscripts for editorial and production needs
" Manage the overall production schedule and coordinate workflow between publisher, author, and vendor team.
" Hiring and supervising freelance copyeditors and proofreaders
" Coordinating all aspects of project including design, art acquisition and/or rendering, page makeup, permissions, and quality control.
" Collating author's and proofreader's page proof corrections
" Checking that all corrections have been implemented correctly
" Approving final files for release to printer

Required Experience:

Qualified freelancers should have five or more years of book production experience. He or she must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Candidate must be detail oriented, highly organized, and be able to set and meet deadlines, prioritize, and multi-task. Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills are critical. Should work comfortably with basic computer programs including PDF workflow. Knowledge of Quark and Adobe Creative Suite helpful.

Ideal candidates will also posses a strong sense of design and be able to work within deadlines while maintaining strict attention to detail. Flexibility and a cooperative team approach goes a long way. Some familiarity with other book components such as tabbed dividers, inserts, endpapers, and covers and knowledge of four-color printing is helpful. Knowledge of ETM tagging is a plus.
